A hat that won't come off
Our unique to tilar, low profile chinstrap is designed for both comfort and security, featuring a two-way adjustable and lockable system. Much like the chinstraps found on bike helmets, you have the flexibility to adjust both the sides and the area beneath the chin. This dual adjustability enables you to achieve the ideal fit without needing to overtighten the strap. Once you have found your perfect adjustment, that's it. You only need to set it once—just as you would with a bike helmet. Set and forget.
A brim that bends but doesn't retain a memory
The brim material has been carefully chosen to ensure it can bend to reduce the water pressure when duck-diving but always springing back into place and not obstruct your view. After experimenting with numerous different materials, the goal was to find one that not only performed perfectly but wasn't a burden to the environment. The solution was to repurpose a material originally used in food manufacturing — otherwise destined for landfill. In fact, some brims come from a chocolate factory and still smells of cocoa
Comfort Central
Tilar hats are lightweight, minimal, and comfortable without compromising functionality. Their unstructured design makes them soft, easy to wear, and quick-drying. Each hat includes a basic neoprene sweatband which is a nice cushion, and the extended brim offers better coverage with no pressure points for all-day wear.
Environmental and social responsibility
Our hats largely made from materials that would otherwise end up as waste. All fabrics are 100% recycled or diverted from landfill. The brims repurpose waste from food manufacturing and the closures are from unwanted bras (the rest of the bra is either reused into new bras or used as stuffing for footstools). Local makers in Wellington, New Zealand help bring our hats to life: Graley Plastics laser cut our components to minimise waster and microplastics, Hills Hats put them together, and Wellington Rubber Stamp Co made my rad stamps. Poneke Proud!
"Best hat ever! I'm a surf hat fan. I really liked my old hat, it took some convincing to try another surf hat - but I'm sold. Hands down best surf-hat-ever".
